In 1968, the former Hotel Ponce de Leon opened as the centerpiece to Flagler College. Guests were required to pay to stay for the entire season, whether they stayed that long or not. There were approximately 450 hotel rooms, and it cost $4,000 to stay for the entire season. It was a seasonal hotel opening only from January to Easter. The Ponce official opened January 12, 1888.
